Global Average Surface Temperature

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), taking place in Belém, Brazil, arrives at a pivotal moment for people and the planet, one that demands bold, collective action.

COP30: A First Joint Action Against Disinformation
COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025, takes place against the backdrop of an escalating climate crisis, with the last eleven years being the hottest ever recorded, and the global average temperature for the period from January to August 2025 exceeding pre-industrial levels by 1.42°C. This year, a handful of countries, including Canada and France, signed a declaration committing to tackle false and misleading information.

One of the signatory countries’ commitments is to implement “policies and legal frameworks” to combat climate disinformation, and they also pledge to “support initiatives that promote media literacy and the public’s right to reliable and accessible information.”
The current climate situation, according to the World Meteorological Organization’s report published on November 5, 2025, confirms that global temperatures continue to rise, with an average increase of 1.42°C for the first eight months of the year, and that CO₂ concentrations have reached record levels. Unfortunately, global greenhouse gas emissions are not decreasing quickly enough.
